On a bit of a different tip today - but I know there's enough DFW love floating around to justify a quick departure.
With the release of The Pale King, there's been a bit of interesting DFW reading going around.
In the New Yorker recently, Backbone is an excerpt from the above new book.
And here, is a really wonderful article by Maria Bustillos about reading what is left of DFW's papers and self-help books.
Finally, for a bit of poignant musical accompaniment, grab this for the approaching winter months. Completely DFW-unreleated, Nils Frahm is a young Berlin composer (in the vein of Peter Broderick and Max Richter) whose Wintermusik is achingly beautiful. Well worth a listen
If anyone wants a downloadable version of Nil Frahm let me know and I'll hook it up
ReplyDeleteAins had just sent me that article.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty interesting.
I just ordered the Pale King and that Lipsky book about him, hopefully they come before we leave.
Here's the best online resource for DFW.

Run by a guy from Sydney. It has lots of unpublished works. Stuff he wrote for college newspapers etc.
There's a launch for Pale King in Melbourne on the 20th April.
