Jay Daniel - Broken Knowz

This via lil broski.. Been vibing this album for walking home on hot nights. When I was a teenager, I felt naked walking around or taking the tram to school without headphones in, but I hardly have in the past five or so years. My increased use of bike transportation, I guess, or maybe I'm more into eavesdropping now, I don't know. Anyway I've kind of been enjoying that "my life is a movie" feeling you get when you block out traffic sounds and give yourself a soundtrack. Not on the bike, though, of course.

Anyway, I won't go into detail about Jay Daniel, the story is all over the interwebs. He's 25, from Detroit, previous releases on Theo Parrish and Kyle Hall's labels and his mum worked with Carl Craig in the early 90s.

I've been listening to this on my paid subscription music service which, after sooking about getting for ages, is actually the best. I'm going to add that to the "pillars of adulthood" I've achieved. But anyway I'm sure it's pretty to easy to find a download for if you like what you hear but not that much eh. I read a review that said check Knowledge of Selfie for some jazzy keys, but they clearly don't know you sickos cos it's not even on the same planet as some of the fruity piano I've heard you guys get excited about.

Apparently summer is taking a lil break outside today... but there's no windows in this office, the whole building is climate controlled and I've got this in my ears, so I can pretend. Just wish I was wearing some kind of puffled (puffy and ruffled) crop top.

This version of Black Coco is just from the new Palms Trax mix. Gunna dump some Hindi/Punjabi stuff here sooooooon. I've got a lot to get through and most of it is junk.

Chaos In The CBD

Chaos In The City seem to have it worked out. Their Midnight In Peckham album was a frequent flyer of last summer for me. Something about so many of their tunes that has me instantly wanting to be in da club in the early morning. Global Erosion has a similar effect, except it's a little later in the night, maybe back at a house, just pre sunrise, crew has thinned, solo boogies and good times of the day to come.

Roberto Musci - Tower of Silence

This is a new release of mostly old but some new tracks from Roberto Musci, Italian field record producer who has released a bunch of interesting stuff since the 80's, particularly with fellow Italian Giovanni Venosta. They travelled Asia and Africa through the 70's and 80's making field recordings and then added a bunch of trippy droned out synth sounds back in Italy some time later. Some of their music takes me back to clocking the matrix and makes me think it would of been a fitting soundtrack, other tracks make my eyes well and I have no idea why. I really appreciate these people. The below albums are worth your time, if you find them.

I was going to write a big, long sook about how winter fkn sux, but really I just wanna encourage someone else to post something new for me to listen to.

These are a couple of my recents, incl. one by the legendary Big Rig. Bloody love 'er. And love this Sunday-morning-two-loads-of-washing-mix she's made.

No doof here. Can't wait to get down some time soon though. These icicle bones are really thirstin' for summadat jungle heat.

45 ACP AKA D.K.

D.K. aka 45 ACP has a broad web, from almost ambient (techno) to sinister house to Balearic boogie and things in between for which I haven't got the vocab to describe, if only that Genre Map could read my mind. I've listen to this juno mix a few too many times, but its a chicken dinner. There's only a couple of tracks that really stand out overall, but as a whole and the various directions, there's something stand out about DKs work. This Test Pressing mix is a short and sweet summary of his recent work, or in more detail below:


Antinote (D.K.)
Island of Dreams: Recent release, as the title suggests, full of super melodic dreamy synth tracks. Sometimes they bring a bag, sometime they don't.

Love on Delivery: From last year some time. Doesn't seem as finished as other releases, often feels like songs are about to get a little deeper, but it doesn't come. Still, I like it as a whole. An album for time travel.

Drop: In terms of genre, this sits right in the middle, more melodic than LIES, not as hectic as his techno releases, but driving compared to the above two. The transition from album to album seems almost intentional, from full hecto dungeon club vibe to life is a cosmic bowl of tea.

L.I.E.S. (45 ACP)
Change Of Tone: Spacey, harsh, hectic and non-melodic, which at times works well, like Playing for Keeps. Hidden Garden is a favourite.

The Untitled EPs and Code 4 are solid techno releases, super flat and compressed, not too dark, but I imagine right at home in da club on Sunday afternoon.

If you've any interest in early and deep house this is a sweet interview with the genre's most reserved and humble pioneer. I hope he makes it down to Melbourne for a side show next month...
